Scheduled Adjustments

Note: Effective January 1, 2013, TSA is simplifying the fuel surcharge calculation process by:

1) Converting its three-tiered Inland Fuel Surcharge to a single-tier Intermodal Fuel Surcharge (IFS) component; and

2) Incorporating the component into the overall Bunker Charge, as was done previously with the Low-Sulfur component.

The IFS component will be calculated as before, using U.S. Department of Energy weekly average on-highway diesel prices, and converted using the formula BNSF Railway applies in its intermodal contracts with ocean carriers.

Beginning January 1, the IFS component will be added in with the basic marine bunker and low-sulfur component to comprise a single Bunker Charge.

The low-sulfur and intermodal components will continue to be broken out and posted here and on the Current Charges page, in the interest of transparency.
